TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements (2025 Update)

TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements (2025 Update)

TikTok Shop affiliate requirements differ sharply by role (creator vs. seller), by region, and by creator type. There are three creator types, Affiliate, Marketing, and Official Shop. Each with different follower requirements and access to shop tools. This post breaks down every eligibility gate for both creators and brand sellers, including the insurance mandate rolling out in early 2026. If you run an affiliate program on TikTok Shop, these are the thresholds your partners need to clear.

Current TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements for Creators

Creator eligibility is the most common sticking point. The rules have shifted multiple times since TikTok Shop launched in the US, and they vary by market. Here is where things stand now.

Minimum Follower Count by Region (US, UK, SEA)

To promote products from other sellers via the TikTok Shop product marketplace, the account must have at least 5,000 followers in the United States. In the UK, the threshold is generally 1,000+ followers, plus a recent post and a good-standing account.

In Southeast Asia (e.g., Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia), eligibility often starts around 600–1,000 followers, depending on permission type.

Malaysia has a link-share path with no follower minimum for basic link sharing.

For brands running tiktok shop affiliate program recruitment, this means your US creator pool is inherently smaller than your SEA pool, plan outreach volumes accordingly.

RegionMinimum Followers (Affiliate Creator)
United States5,000
United Kingdom1,000
Southeast Asia (SG, PH, ID)600–1,000
Malaysia (link-share)0

Account Age and Content History Thresholds

You must have posted content within the last 28 days to demonstrate active participation. After successful verification, Affiliate and Marketing creators with fewer than 5,000 followers are automatically enrolled in the Creator Pilot Program for 30 days. During that pilot window, creators can explore promoting products with limited capabilities, such as access to products with a shop performance score of at least 95% and a posting limit of a maximum of 5 product promotion videos and 3 LIVEs per week.

Creators who were verified before April 7, 2025 are exempt from the pilot program restrictions. Everyone else needs to pass a probation quiz and generate at least 10 orders in shoppable content to unlock full access, per TikTok’s Creator Eligibility Policy.

Community Guidelines Compliance and Strike History

TikTok regularly reviews creator accounts for compliance. If violations are identified, enforcement actions may include restricting or removing your creator account.

Creators must not be associated with accounts that have had e-commerce permissions revoked by TikTok Shop. Creators can monitor their standing via the Creator Health Rating (CHR) page inside the app.

From our affiliate management work at Advertise Purple, the most frequent rejection we see among creator applicants is an unresolved Community Guidelines strike, not follower count. Brands should screen for account health before investing in creator onboarding.

TikTok Shop Affiliate Requirements for Brand Sellers

Sellers face a different set of gates. Follower counts don’t apply; instead, the requirements center on business documentation, product compliance, and, soon, insurance.

TikTok Seller Center Registration and Verification

To sell on TikTok Shop, sellers may need to provide business registration certificates, tax identification numbers, product certification documents (for restricted items), and proof of supplier legitimacy (for resellers).

TikTok now requires all shops to provide a phone number and set up two-step verification as a mandatory security measure.

If you want to learn how to become a tiktok shop affiliate seller, the registration process runs through TikTok Seller Center and typically takes 1–3 business days for approval once documents are submitted.

Product Listing Standards and Prohibited Categories

The TikTok Shop Prohibited Products Policy outlines rules for product listings, covering products that are prohibited for sale in accordance with TikTok’s policies and federal, state, and local laws.

Key prohibited categories include:

  • Adult products and sexual wellness items
  • Alcohol, tobacco, and e-cigarettes
  • Firearms, ammunition, and weapons
  • Drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Counterfeit or gray-market goods
  • Live animals and endangered species products

Products must be listed in the correct category and condition (e.g., only new items in beauty, supplements, and food categories).

All information provided by sellers is required to be accurate and truthful, and any misleading product information is strictly prohibited.

Upcoming Q1 2026 Seller Insurance Mandate

This is the requirement most sellers are underestimating. Currently, CGL insurance is not a mandatory requirement, but may become so in the future. TikTok will notify sellers in advance before it becomes mandatory.

TikTok has publicly announced that insurance requirements are coming, and the platform already reserves the right to request proof of coverage at any time.

Most sellers should carry Commercial General Liability and Product Liability insurance with at least $1 million per occurrence in coverage. According to TikTok Seller Insurance, if you’re selling on TikTok Shop in 2026, insurance is no longer optional thinking. It is a compliance strategy.

TikTok can restrict, pause payouts, or shut down your shop if a claim happens and you are not properly insured.

Sellers should budget approximately $29/month for basic coverage and prepare to upload a Certificate of Insurance (COI) listing TikTok Inc. as an additional insured, per TikTok’s Insurance Center documentation.

Regional Differences in TikTok Shop Affiliate Eligibility

US-Specific Requirements and Tax Documentation

You must be 18 or older, and currently the program is for US-based creators (with a US shipping address). Creators registered for e-commerce permissions starting July 2025 must submit personal identity information, including a US driver’s license, US state-issued identity, or passport. Sellers also need a valid EIN or SSN for W-9 tax reporting.

UK and European Market Variations

In most active markets, such as the UK and parts of Southeast Asia, 1,000 followers remains the threshold for self-promotion.

Spain and Ireland launched as invite-only pilots in late 2024 and moved to open registration in early 2025. European sellers face additional VAT documentation requirements that US sellers do not.

Southeast Asia: Lower Barriers, Higher Competition

Countries like Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore follow the 1,000 follower rule. The lower barrier translates to a much larger creator pool, which means commission rates tend to compress and product saturation is higher. In Vietnam, there is no follower count requirement for the TikTok Shop Affiliate Linkshare Programme.

What Happens If You Don’t Meet the Requirements

Common Disqualification Reasons and How to Fix Them

Common rejection causes include incomplete documentation, address mismatches, or prohibited product categories. For creators, content originality matters significantly, reposts or heavily copied content can disqualify applications. Fix these by clearing any outstanding strikes, verifying your identity documents match your account region, and posting original content consistently for 28+ days before reapplying.

Growing Your Account to Meet Follower Thresholds

New creators under 5,000 followers start in a 30-day Pilot Program with limited features. This is actually a viable path: you can begin earning commissions with limited access while building toward the 5,000-follower milestone. If you have under 5,000 followers, your shoppable posts quota refreshes every Monday at midnight PST. Focus on high-completion-rate content, TikTok’s algorithm rewards watch time over follower count for organic reach.

Alternative: Joining Brand Affiliate Programs Outside TikTok Shop

Not every tiktok shop creator affiliate opportunity requires meeting TikTok’s native thresholds. Brands can recruit creators through external affiliate networks and use TikTok as a traffic source without the creator needing TikTok Shop permissions. This is particularly useful for creators in the 1,000–4,999 follower range in the US who can’t yet access the Product Marketplace.
