Increase your organic traffic with SEO

Did you know there are over one billion websites on the internet? What’s more, Google processes almost 100,000 search queries every second, totalling to well over 8 billion search requests a day, and how many of those searches are leading to a click on your website? Well that’s for Google Analytics to say. But odds are after hearing just how big the global search volume is in a day you’re probably thinking you deserve a little bigger slice of the pie. Well that’s where I come in. Welcome back to another blog, this week we’ll be discussing SEO for your company.

So, what exactly is SEO? SEO, or search engine optimization, is a process we marketers like to go through to make sure our website content, visuals, and behind the scenes coding are all working together to show Google that we are a reliable and relevant website to suggest to users. Why is this important? Because the higher your website ranks on the search engine results page (SERP), the more likely people are to click on it and visit your site. And in the end isn’t that what we all want?

The first thing you need to know about SEO is that it’s not a one-and-done kind of thing. It requires ongoing effort and attention to detail. But don’t worry, I’m not going to overwhelm you with all the technicalities and complex algorithms. Instead, I’m giving you a foolproof list off tips that will improve your website’s SEO and help you rank higher so you can boost your website’s organic traffic. So, without further ado, let’s dive in!

Choose the right keywords

Keywords are the backbone of SEO. They are the words and phrases that people use in their search queries and including these words throughout the content on your site will demonstrate to the search engine that your website is highly relevant to the user’s search. Start by brainstorming a list of keywords that describe your products or services and what someone might look up to find that product. You can also use a keyword research tool like Google Keyword Planner to find out which keywords are most popular and have the least competition. Once you have a list of high-traffic, low-competition keywords, incorporate them into your website’s content, titles, and meta descriptions.

Create high-quality content

Content is king in the world of SEO. High-quality, original, and engaging content will naturally boost engagement and make your page rise in the SERP ranks. Having good content not only attracts visitors to your site but also establishes your brand as an authority in your industry. Make sure your content is well-written, informative, and relevant to your audience. Don’t forget to optimize your content by incorporating your keywords and include internal links to other pages on your site.

Optimize your website’s structure

There’s a lot that goes into the backend of your website that plays a role in how well you rank in searches. If you don’t have an in-house developer and use a website builder, such as Squarespace, there is usually a section that allows you to customize the SEO for your website. You can do this by using your keywords in the titles, headings, meta descriptions, and URLs for your pages. Your site should also be easy to navigate, user friendly, and adaptable for mobile screens. Search engines take user experience into account in their ratings so performing A/B testing on different versions of your sites pages might be useful to understand what ranks best.

Without taking too much of your time, this is what you need to perfect your website’s SEO so you can start climbing up the search rankings. But keep in mind that in order to stay at the top you have to continuously upkeep your SEO.  That means adjusting to changes in trends and keywords and keeping your website up to date. But if you’re doing all of this regularly you’ll be improving your visibility and traffic in no time. So why not get started right now and take the next 5 minutes to brainstorm what keywords your brand should be using for SEO.
